Hello ... It's Me .... Let's Set Some Goals!

Yup, its been a while.
University and sickness had/have taken over from most things at the minute to be honest.

I wanted though to say hello and encourage you, especially as we are coming into the Christmas mayhem.  It's only a little while to go now and for many the festivities start from the very beginning of December.  If you have worked your behinds off to get into the size of dress that you wanted to wear for a party, or for your family at the Christmas meal to notice that you have changed, then you don't want to ruin all your hard work ... do you?

I know, for me, that i definitely do not want this to happen.  What am I doing to try and combat the inevitable - and dreaded-  Christmas weight gain?

I have set myself goals, ACHIEVABLE goals, to help me out.  Now I am at a disadvantage that most of you will not have.  I am having major abdominal surgery next week, as a result will be unable to carry on with my training sessions ... this is killing me!!! seriously, it has become such a big part of my schedule that I will find this so hard.

I know that for good weight-loss or for making a positive difference in my body it starts in the KITCHEN!!!!

One of my goals is - EAT CLEAN!!!!

Yup, it sounds simple ... in practice it can be hard, especially with so many nibbles and (for those of you who like a wee drink) and glasses of eggnog, mulled wine ...or for me - hot chocolate!!!!

With being in hospital for a few days I know I wont get the selection of food that I normally do.  I will attempt to be careful still and will be making my little energy ball bites to bring in with me, along with peppermint tea too.  I would be tempted to bring in so much more like my yummy tabbouleh but I don't think that would go down too well.

My second goal is - FOCUS ON RECOVERY!!!!

If you are recovering from an injury (or surgery) focus on healing that injury, not on working out.  I know that we will want to be pushing play, or going to the gym to focus on our toning but inevitably if you do go back to it too soon you will cause yourself more damage and will be out of training for longer.  Don't be silly (talking to myself here) and listen to what the doctor and your body is telling you!!!!

You want to be fit and healthy for Christmas, not dying off in some corner because you have caused yourself more pain, BE SENSIBLE!!!

My third goal - LOSE 6 POUNDS!!!!

You may think that this is a silly goal, especially when a) it's Christmas and b) because I wont be able to work out. I disagree, I think this is a good goal to have because it means that I am still focused on my end goal.  That I am not in for the short term but the long term.  It is so easy to just forget about all the hard work that you have done and eat and pig out BUT - the guilt after is not good, nor is the sluggish feel when you have indugled WAY too much.  I'm not saying here that you are not to enjoy the holidays BUT I am saying indulge in MODERATION! Moderation is key!  I don't want to step on the scales after Christmas and see that I have put on a stone, if I stay the same I will be ok with that, even with a few pounds on.  I will be ecstatic to see a pound or two less.

So as you can see my main focus for this goal is - to enjoy myself in moderation, and focus on the long-term goal.

My last (fourth) goal is - WALK 2 KM BY THE END OF THE MONTH!!!!!

such a silly goal really as I am able to run this pretty easily now, but one that I really want to achieve.  As soon as I am able to I hope to be on my feet and walking short distances.  Movement aids recovery so really I am just helping myself with goal number 2 .. aren't I ?!? Movement is so important and even if I am only able to walk I will do that.  Even if it means going to the gym (out of the coldness) and walking on a treadmill for a while I WILL DO THIS!!!

Now you've seen the goals that I have been coming up with, which are tailored to me, why not come up with some of your own?

stick them up on the fridge door, the cupboard door or the mirror .... OR EVERYWHERE!!!

Remind yourself of them DAILY to keep your mind focused on WHAT you want to achieve ... this way you can think of HOW you will achieve them!

How will I achieve mine?

I have a food plan for myself once i come out of hospital, plenty of fresh vegetables, chicken, smoothies and a healthy breakfast of porridge (or something similar)

I have all my Christmas shopping done and decorations up before I go into hospital (silly I know but I love all things Christmas and would be so upset if I had to miss out on these parts)

I enjoy my food on Christmas day, the days following even though I will be out of the house I will be bringing my food with me.  This is a two part thing because it is so that i can keep my food in check but mostly - when I get bloated (with starchy carbs and foods loaded with sugar) it is immensely painful and I do not want to do that to myself as I wouldn't enjoy the people I am with. (does that make sense to you?)

As for my walking, when I feel able, I will go to the gym with my gym buddies.  I will use the treadmill to help with my walking and I will be careful to not ruin my recovery.

Because of my forward planning I am hoping for  success -

 Have you planned your goals?
have you planned how you will achieve these?
Are you 'winging it'?
- Is that wise?

What is stopping you from planning your goals and how to achieve them?
Don't let Christmas ruin your hard work!
