... I Know What I Did Last Year.....
We've heard the beginning of the story, the one that takes us from the realisation of how big and unhealthy I was to just after Christmas ... want to hear the next part? Get some advice? and learn a bit about what helped me get to where I am now? You've come to the right blog, this blog is about how I have made a difference to myself and now I'm hoping that it will help you, even in the teeniest, tiniest of ways.
You know that I lost nothing from August right through to the beginning of January.
I had been religious with my workouts and yet absolutely NADA!!!!
January 5th 2015 is a day that I changed something else - I changed my food and I stepped up my workout. I began to do a Beachbody program - INSANITY. It is exactly how it sounds. Insane!
As for my foods I'll explain that for you.
I have a hormone imbalance due to me having polycystic ovaries (PCOS) what does that mean? To put it bluntly, it means that there is a problem with obesity and insulin resistance among other things.
I started January with the resolution to make more of a change to my body ...
Changing my food was a big one. This is where the weight began to drop - very quickly, but that isn't surprising for someone who had A LOT of weight to lose!
The end of January saw me a one pound - ONE POUND - away from a full stone lost. I was in shock by the result and I was over the moon ... finally the scales had moved in the direction that I wanted them to move in and it helped give me the determination that I needed to keep me pursuing the dream of being smaller ... That's what is was for me, a dream. I didn't think that it would happen, actually I didn't think it could happen.
my next challenge was to keep that weight off and get more off, the determination was set! I was ready and I wasn't backing down!
Have you heard it said (along these lines)
If you cant fly RUN
If you can't run WALK
If you can't walk CRAWL ...
I began crawling and I felt like I was beginning to get the baby steps down and would soon be walking properly. I still use this saying when I have a hard day or period of time.
How was I crawling? Well, getting rid of some foods from what I was normally eating was so hard.
I basically went cold turkey ... so what don't I eat? well here is a brief over view
+ Dairy - (turns out my tummy isnt great with dairy but also because you can't guarantee that there are
no extra hormones)
+ Bread
+ White Pasta
+ White Potatoes
+Sugar -(as far is as humanly possible I try to cut this out, including in my tea and coffee!!!!)
+ Caffine - ( drinks like coffee and tea increase your blood sugar levels = increased insulin - not good for PCOS)
+ Salt AKA sodium (sodium chloride) - (salt causes fluid retention and can raise blood pressure, with PCOS I am 4 times more likely to suffer from high blood pressure.)
+ Processed Foods - (as far as humanly possible)
That's all I can think of now
I try to keep it as FRESH as possible, CLEAN as possible and as HEALTHY as possible.
What do I mean by clean? - as close to its original state as I can, trying to cut out anything that could be added to it.
Is it easy? No! It isn't, as I told a friend recently - everyday is hard because I love all types of food. I see a delicious donut, I smell the amazing scent of chip shop chips .... sometimes I cave, sometimes I remain strong ...
Within the space of 6 months I had lost 3 stone and 6.5 pounds.
So with my eating, did I do anything else?
YES!!!! I fell in love with Shaun-T and his workout programs.
As I said, I started the year with insanity. This program pushed me, it hurt me, it changed me, it encouraged me, it motivated me, it helped me to see that I could do anything I put my mind to. It showed me that anything is possible if you just believe in yourself.
After Insanity I was away for a week and was unable to do anything while there (apart from walking, I did A LOT of that!!!) BUT
When I got back home I started T25 and did that on its own for a week before I added in Insanity MAX:30. I really enjoyed both of these. What made them great for me was they both had a modified version of each of the moves. At this point my knees were still sore, I was still a big girl and couldn't do all the very jumpy moves. I would do them for half the time and then go with the modified.
MAX:30 was my favourite of these two programs - simply because Shaun-T wanted you to max out, that's what it was all about. He wanted you to push yourself until you could literally NOT do anymore repititions of the moves. He wanted you to write that time down and get straight back in ... there is never any excuse for you to not get back in! Take 2 deep breaths in and out and get stuck back in. Nothing less than your best effort is wanted here and that in and of itself is enough to push you to your limits!
That brings me to just before the start of the Summer ... The start of a hard time for anyone who has children at school will understand is a hard time to make sure that you get your 'me' time in ... but That my dear followers is another story for another day!
Why am I telling you about these things in stages?
Because like with every story there are different chapters, the chapters are all different but the all lead to an ending. An ending that can either leave you guessing and open for a sequel or they can be firm in closing the door. I'm hoping that mine is a guessing game - what will happpen to me :)
I want to leave you with this -
I find it difficult, getting up and training, eating the right foods for my body and making a difference to my health. I know the struggles that come with eating healthy, I know that it is hard work to get your training in, I know that there are times that you want to give up and cave and eat that dessert or sugar filled treat (believe me I've done it many times) BUT this is NOT a diet, this is NOT some fad or obsession that I am going through.
It is a LIFESTYLE CHOICE, one that I have chosen freely, and one that I am not about to drop or change.
Why not? Because I SEE a difference, I FEEL a difference, I KNOW there is a difference.
Why have you started your LIFESTYLE CHANGE? or are you sitting on the fence?
If you are - what is stopping you from jumping in to the ring?
Is there something that makes you think being healthier is not for you?
Why not drop me a line and we can chat about it.
