should we have a 'treat' or 'cheat' day??

I see a lot of people feeling guilty when they splurge on what they eat. I wonder why that is?
Is it because they have finally managed to start 'clean racing's and are scared that with one day of slacking that will be them completely off track?
Or is it because they are doing well with their weight loss / the changes in their body are fantastic?

I've been reading various sources from magazines to the beachbody blog and they stress the importance of having a healthy balanced diet but to allow yourself a day or meal where you don't worry about calories or fat content or how much sugar you're eating.

It's easier and some would say better for you and the sustainability of your lifestyle to be lax and enjoy that day or meal.

For me - I do this. I look forward to that meal where I'm not concerned about what I'm eating and today? I enjoyed the smooth creamy potatoes, the yummy peppered sauce with steak .... Oh did I mention I put bacon onions and garlic into the potatoes? It tasted amazing and because I only have this as a one off I enjoyed and savoured every minute of it.

When you are strict with what you are eating and have that one day have you ever noticed you enjoy it more. And you enjoy the more wholesome foods ... not the takeaway chips and burgers but the good 'bad' food because your body rejects the unhealthy greasy foods.

I can vouch for that, I had a chicken fillet burger from my local chip shop this week ... my first in about 2 years and when I was eating I enjoyed every minute but after oh the stomach pains were awful. I won't be doing that for a while I can tell you .... or maybe never again! It really was that bad!

Remember that you need to enjoy your food at the same time, to be sustainable you have to be able to enjoy it. Find those meals that you absolutely love and don't allow yourself anymore and have a day in the week where you make that food. Savour every mouthful and you will find that you are happier for it.

In my week I have a date night where hubby and I go to a coffee shop while master fairy is at kids club and we chose a dessert to share,  and on most Sunday's I will have a yummy lunch with maybe even a dessert. And ill enjoy it even more. ... it also makes me work harder through the week when I know I'm gonna have that special dessert or meal.

Enjoy what you do and eat, you only get one life.

Just don't do what the Rock did -

But if you did/have/are in the middle of one

Hope that doesn't come across as a lecture ... It's just my musing put down in print :)
