It's That Time Again ...

Happy Christmas everyone --- even if it was on Friday that the longed for Christmas Day was.  Yesterday was the end of the foodie days and after my catch up lunch today with some friends I am back on the clean eating band wagon.

How did you guys get on?  did you over stuff those tummys? did you cave and eat the Christmas chocolates?

DON'T WORRY!!!!

Something that I tell myself and others is this - Life is for living and if we were so strict with ourselves about what we eat then we won't truly be living.

We have to be able to take part in the lives and loves of those around us, if we restrict ourselves then we are being unfair to our own lives and those around us ... the point? I hope that you did eat the food around you without feeling guilty, I hope that you enjoyed the food, that yes you didn't eat to excess but that you savoured each mouthful and enjoyed it immensely.

So the plan (after new year of course) is to get back on track totally and completely, to minimize the slip-ups and to detox the oh so yummy but, unfortunately, oh so bad for us food out of the system and start from scratch again.  To get the workouts started and motivate each other to push through the sluggish week or so until we are back to power ... are you with me?

I'm not one for new years resolutions, I'm just not.  Why you might ask?  because I believe that we set ourselves up for a fall.  If you make a new years resolution and then revisit it the following year you more likely than not have not kept with it.  You feel disappointed and despondent and then you make the same one again only to have the same thing happen the following year.

Why not instead of a new years resolution do a new months resolution?  plan for a month not the full 12, start small, think achievable, focus on the doable.

What is the one thing that you want?
that you know will take time?
will have hurdles?
and requires dedication?

From those question set out the resolutions in the most basic of ways and each month work on a new aspect...incorporating the previous months resolution (so basically building on your already there foundation) and keep moving forward.

You may have heard it said ' he who fails to plan is planning to fail' Winston Churchill

do not be that person who fails at the first hurdle because you haven't planned.

what do I mean by plan?

- your meals for the week, (example meal plans)
                        from there .....
-plan your shopping list (do not buy all of your fresh produce for the full week as they will go off)
- plan your workout,
get up an hour earlier, do it as soon as you come home from work, leave the kids with your                           other half and get out for a run/the gym.

how many times a week will you train?  3/4/5/6?
when will you train? morning/afternoon/evening?
will you train on an empty stomach?
where will you train?

if you are going to run - what program will you follow?  a couch to 5K? a couch to 10K? a half marathon? or maybe even a full marathon?  you could be really adventurous and plan to do an ultra marathon?

if you are at the gym - what plan are you following?  will you do a full body plan? a legs, abs and arms plan?  a weights plan? a cardio plan? a mixed plan?
                             - what is your target area for the week? month? year?

Do you have a weight goal?  how are you going to get there? what sorts of foods are you going to incorporate into your eating?  what foods are you going to reduce/cut out until cheat meal time?

one thing I do want you to do for me - a goal heart.  I found this on instagram and it was @fitgirlsguide I think that I saw this task and so I did it last year.  I found it helpful and really encouraged me to focus.  I've done one this year again of things that I'd like to work on or improve in myself.  I was so pleased that i achieved most of what was on my heart last year and I have added some of the points from last years to this years too.

Do one for yourself and then stick it to your fridge or a cupboard door, somewhere that you will see it everyday and be reminded of where you want to go to.

another thing you could do would be to buy a goal top or pair of jeans in the next size down, or two sizes down and use them to help motivate you.
Take your progress pictures and keep them to hand to look back on (believe me these things are amazing and so motivational!)

I can't stress enough the importance of making sure that you keep things to the achievable.  If you over stretch you will be bitterly disappointed and it could cause you to take steps backwards instead of forwards.

You can do this!
You've got the motivation and the determination in you!
Together we will get to a happier healthier you!

(I've added loads of links so hopefully you can access things a little easier)

and don't forget our #restoringpositivity (find the blog post here) to the world hashtag and challenge that we have. It's been hard over the holiday period I'm sure but it would be great if we could start off the new year by doing this where ever we go.
